The basics of any home fitness exercise program are planning and setting goals. Finding the right equipment or exercises is absolutely necessary to achieve your goals.

1. Bosu Ball - The BOSU® acronym stands for “Both Sides Utilized. Bosu exercises the entire body. Used by professional athletes as well as novices. Bosu is an inexpensive, yet very versatile way to build strength, endurance and tone your body.

2. Bodylastics - A great system that helps burn fat quickly. This home gym product weighs less than two pounds and provides a system that works all key muscle groups (abs, legs, chest, arms and back). Exercises should be smooth and flexible. 3. Home Treadmill - One of the most popular pieces of aerobic equipment, because they are great for home use.
Treadmills let you exercise indoors regardless of the time of day or weather. When purchasing look for a solid, smooth action, a steady pace, wide belt, safety shut off, and incline settings.

4. Exercise Bicycles - Stationary bikes are widely used for exercising at home. They offer a non-impact cardiovascular workout and are great for the overweight or sedentary person just starting to exercise. They primarily use the muscles of the legs and buttocks. Bikes come in a variety of price ranges. Generally speaking a decent quality bike will cost $500 to $1000.

6. Dumbbells - designed to be held in one hand. Over time, increase the lbs. to challenge your muscles. Have sets of dumbbells weighing 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 lbs so you can gradually increase the weight you use. Lifting dumbbells is an excellent way to strength train specific muscle groups by allowing you to isolatate certain muscles. You can target chest, triceps, biceps and shoulders while allowing a complete range of motion. With dumbbells, you can sit, stand, incline, decline, and even train your legs while using dumbbells.
7. Exercise (stability) ball – These balls are a great way to sculpt your entire body. They’re inexpensive, versatile and fun to use. Strengthen and stretch nearly every muscle in your body (especially your core). Like the BOSU, use these balls to improve your balance, coordination and posture. They come in different sizes depending on your weight.
8. Pilates – exercises you can do at home without equipment. Pilates emphasizes the balanced development of the body through core strength, flexibility, and awareness in order to support efficient, graceful movement. 9. Bowflex Sport - near the bottom of the Bowflex gym lineup, as far as price. This equipment is a good alternative to higher priced gyms and may fit smaller budgets when you desire a home gym with a good reputation and strong company behind it.
