At the sides of your waist and reaching from your ribs to your hips are your obliques, or waist muscles, which run up and down at an angle. These must be targeted to produce a neat hourglass shape, and once again are very difficult muscles to engage while lying on the floor, and another prime suspect for hurting the spine.
